Solving the multinational pharma packaging puzzle: Our local roots, your global packaging solutions.

26.03.2024

The pharmaceutical industry shifts and evolves quickly, driven by both evolving patient needs and regulatory changes.

As a result, pharma supply chains, especially those that operate internationally, can be extremely complex. Add in category-specific requirements, such as cold chain storage, and it can be very easy for pharmaceutical businesses to become slow and inefficient. This becomes a major challenge when pharmaceutical market success often relies on speed and volume. Packaging in particular is at the forefront of the pharmaceutical supply chain, responsible for safeguarding the integrity and efficacy of medicinal products, and the safety of end-users. Inefficiency, therefore, can be a big frustration for the pharma category.

At MM Packaging, we think differently.

Years of experience helping our pharma customers adapt to changing markets and regulations has given us the knowledge and agility to support in ways that other suppliers cannot. To move the industry forward in a significant and meaningful way, we prioritise reliability and stability in our role as a leading secondary packaging supplier.

We operate under the ethos of “Our local roots, your global packaging solutions”. This means that we combine international reach with expert understanding of local customers’ businesses and markets, ensuring they have packaging designed specifically to meet their needs, and always staying ahead of emerging market trends.

The pharmaceutical industry is looking for new ways to boost supply chain efficiency, safety, security and sustainability, all while operating on the global stage. With a comprehensive range of secondary packaging solutions – including cartons, labels and leaflets - and a wide range of safety and security technologies, our team at MM Packaging takes away many of the common pain points that pharma businesses find when developing packaging for new products.

What sets our business apart is how we don’t just bring market-to-market knowledge in areas of legislative compliance, we back it up with expert global logistics. With 28 manufacturing sites dedicated to pharmaceutical packaging production around the world, we deliver secondary packaging, security and supply chain service solutions tailored to specific geographical needs.

Our extensive global footprint means we cultivate in-depth and up-to-the-minute knowledge of each individual pharmaceutical market, as well as its specific needs and regulations. For our customers, this ensures seamless compliance and delivery of packaging solutions tailored to their specific geographical market needs.

”Our local roots, your global packaging solutions” commitment also means we offer high levels of production flexibility. For our customers, we proudly go beyond the role of standard supplier to become a true strategic solutions partner. "Our Local Roots, Your Global Packaging Solutions” means we use regional market knowledge that goes beyond packaging specifications. As well as creating fantastic relationships with our pharma customers, it also gives our business the agility to respond quickly to changing market needs. Having a network of strategically located facilities around the globe means that no matter where our customers may be located, or the markets in which they operate, we have the capacity to meet their needs. We deliver what our customers need, on time, every time.

An example of this in action can be seen with our innovative Piggyback® solution. In the US pharmaceutical market, the latest legislation requires more information to be distributed alongside products. In response, we equipped our US mainland and Puerto Rico sites with the capacity to produce our Piggyback® leaflet solution. This innovation glues several leaflet pages back-to-back to provide more space for the required printed information.

Another way in which we’re reducing the pressure on our pharmaceutical customers is through our service offering. With larger and more complex supply chains, products will typically pass many individual touchpoints before a finished product is ready for shipping. This can include supply chains where the secondary packaging is produced in one facility, before being serialised or coded in another facility, and products are then packed in another.

What makes our business such a valued partner to our customers is that we provide connected services that reduce the number of individual touchpoints. For instance, we offer both serialisation and pre-serialisation services, based on the needs of the customer and the requirements of the local market. Regulatory shifts such as the development of the Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) in the US, which mandates the use of serialisation on all pharmaceutical packaging, could prove difficult in more complex supply chains, but MM Packaging makes it simple by offering it as a service.

We believe that working with a multinational partner should be simple and should make life easier for pharmaceutical businesses – not harder. We also believe that with the right knowledge and technologies in place, such as those we supply at MM Packaging, operating internationally and responding to local market needs can be made frustration-free.

Our commitment to the ethos of "Our local roots, your global packaging solutions" positions us as a strategic partner, not just a supplier. We believe that pharma businesses should demand more from their packaging partners, and we want to show why our approach, blending the best of local knowledge and a global viewpoint, is such a key advantage.
